Depending on where you live, you'll find different opportunities for funding your athletic talents. When choosing your post-secondary program, you may want to be flexible in relocating yourself to get the best funding possible. Some regions have stricter regulations while others dole out more rewards.

The Ontario University Athletics group has slightly stricter regulations on top of those laid out by the CIS. Returning athletes only qualify for awards if their academic average is 70 per cent, not 65. Despite tuition and compulsory fees, the most an athlete can bank in awards is $3,500. Ontario is the only region that regulates on top of CIS rules about awards.

Western athletes may find they have more chances to get awards. The Alberta provincial government has a program that funds post-secondary athletes purely based on sporting merit.
